Introduction

I am a college student who loves to travel. I have acquired some helpful tips and tricks on how to travel on a budget. By creating this blog, I hope to share my knowledge and help people who also love to travel. Traveling can be hard when you are a student and on a budget but I hope to help people who are planning a trip, or just for future traveling!

Tips that will help you travel on a budget

  1. Make a plan– Pick your destination and do some research. You should be able to tell if you will be able to afford the trip.
  2. Dates– You will notice that the cheapest time to travel is out of season, which is usually the winter. If you are set on traveling in the summer use websites like Google Flights, Kayak, Cheapoair, and Skyscanner.
  3. Book in advance– Prices tend to go up the closer the date, so by booking early you can save tons of money.
  4. Stay in airbnbs and hostels– This is the best way to save money on your living situation. Hotels have many extra fees that you may not even be aware of. Hostels are very popular with college students and it’s a great way to meet knew people.
  5. Use public transport– Taxis and Ubers can be very expensive. Many cities in Europe have advanced public transportation that can be very affordable.
  6. Eating– Don’t or limit eating out at restaurants. If you are staying in an airbnb, buy groceries and cook at home. If you choose a hostel they usually have kitchens where you can cook.
  7. Shopping– It’s easy to get carried away shopping while you are in a new city. However, there are so many free attractions and events that don’t require you to pay. Be smart with your spending.
  8. Avoid taxes– Whatever you buy overseas has a tax on it, however, you can get the money back at the airport if you show your purchase receipts.
  9. Be flexible– Don’t over plan the trip and be spontaneous. You make not be able to do everything you would like but that leaves room to explore things you wouldn’t normally.
  10. Pack light– Packing light helps you avoid checked luggage fees, you can fly with cheaper carriers, and more accessible on public transportation.
  11. Work– If you are planning to travel for as long as a month or longer, you should get a job. This help you make money, learn the language, and meet new people.
  12. Multiple destinations– If you are planning on going to multiple countries and cities use bus and train packages. Traveling by bus or train is cost affective and helps you discover new places. Try interrail.eu
